Off the Chemo!!!

Hi Everyone! We know it’s been a while since we’ve shared any news on this site, but hopefully this trusty blogging tool will make things easier. Plus, the news we have is worth the wait! Yesterday, Mia had her first checkup after being off the chemo for a month. The ultrasound showed no new hemangiomas and the existing ones hadn’t grown in size – which is exactly what the doctors were hoping for! So…we’re going to continue on picc line-free with no chemo and only (another) shortened dose of oral prednisone and an antibiotic, then we’ll go back in a month for another scan to see how things are looking. The idea is that we continue to reduce the medications to the point where she’s completely med-free. As we go, she’ll continue to grow and eventually outpace the hemangiomas. Overall, the doctors are really pleased – so are mom and dad!
It’s hard to believe Mia’s already six months old. She’s starting to get chubby and has decided to trade length for chunkiness (currently 25 inches long and 14 1/2 pounds). Tonight she decided to Give Peas a Chance…and loved them (see above video)! Other foody favorites include squash (sick!!!), sweet potatoes and bananas. This week she also started on the puffy star crackers and so far, prefers the cherry flavor.
Mom and Dad are doing well too. Mom’s busy day-to-day tending to BubbaWumpus, keeping the house from becoming a disaster area and pretty much everything else bambina or casa-related. Dad took a new job with Datran Media, the company that purchased Top-Colleges.com from AffiliateCREW. He’ll be doing the same stuff, just working for a different company (based in New York). He’s also taken an interest in smoking…as in “meats”. Last weekend he did a test run with some pork ribs and bacon-flavored corn on the cob. Not a bad first effort, but like all fine arts, smoking will take time to perfect.
Feel free to post your own replies to this blog. We’d love to hear from all of you! More news to come…
