Red & Green & Mustard = Christmas Poupon
Wow – 12 more days to Christmas. What? How? Time’s been a flyin’ since the last pre-turkey blog post. Let’s see…
- Mia had her appointment at Primary Children’s last Friday. More good news! After being off all meds for a while, we were due for a CT scan of her chest to see how things were looking internally after being off treatment. For the first time ever, there was a “reduction” in the hemangiomas on her liver! The doc usually speaks in pretty vague terms, but that was definitely the first time she’s used that word…and we’ll take it! It was a rough day for Mia – they had to give her an IV, sedate her and feed her full of contrast, but she made it through. Mandy and I are constantly amazed at how strong she is. It’s hard for me to deal with the fact that Mia’s gone through more hospital visits in 10 months than I have in my entire life. The plan now is to keep her off the meds (aside from the calcium supplement and the antibiotic) and head back up every few months for a quick ultrasound just to make sure there aren’t any surprises. We’ll probably be doing this for a couple years, but again ,we’ll take it! We couldn’t be more excited to exhale and spend our first Christmas with our favorite little one!
- Mia gets bigger and more hilarious by the day. She’s cruising everywhere – including up the stairs. She’s into everything. She knows where her ears, hair and nose are. She claps in time to her favorite show: Little Einsteins on Disney. She loves to mimic their “missions” and help Rocket go faster by clapping and raising her arms in the air. If anybody’s looking for Christmas ideas for her, you can’t go wrong with toys or DVDs from Little Einsteins. I know Mandy has a list she’s keeping.
- I made my first trip to the roof to put up Christmas lights last weekend (picture above). Not exactly Griswald-esque, but I’m just happy I didn’t kill myself. Earlier this week we put up the Christmas tree and Mandy finished decorating it last night. Looks great!!

Mia was pretty excited to see it all lit up. Although, we think it’s more of just a “why is there a big, tall green thing in the room and why did you move the couch?” sort of excitement.
We’re looking forward to seeing everyone on Christmas. Queue up Ralphie and the Red Ryder Bee-Bee Gun. It’ll be here tomorrow!
(PS – you’ll shoot your eye out!)
Merry Christmas -
Ryan, Mandy and Mia
